Generic Magsafe Power Adapter

I was hunting ebay for a used Apple power adapter for my black macbook, and I came across these:
http://cgi.ebay.com/60W-MagSafe-AC-Power-Adapter-for-Apple-MacBook-A1184_W0QQite mZ190182179131QQihZ009QQcategoryZ80064QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

My first thought is, I am not sure I want to trust my macbook to a generic PSU - I forsee bad things could happen. Then, I noticed it is a Panasonic brand.

If this unit puts out the same power as the original Apple Magsafe, do you think this is a good buy?

It is not a panasonic product in the sense it was not made for a macBook. It uses a panasonic module they modified to do this.. I personally have trouble trusting my MacBook to a power supply modified this way. Especially sold on ebay by a company in Hong Kong.

Apple still doesn't offer a 12V automobile adapter with a MagSafe terminal. The local Reno Nevada Apple Store referred me to "Kinsington" and/or other 3rd party suppliers. But I have searched and no one offers one.

Pretty lame Apple comes out with a proprietary terminal without available options. Geez...I guess they don't expect us to want to use their MacBook in an automobile eh?

I did a little digging and that Panasonic adapter (model #N0JZHK000007) puts out 75W. More than enough for the MacBook, not enough for the MacBook Pro. It could work, but it would probably void the warranty.

Having said that, it does not solve my issue at hand. I'm looking for a MagSafe adapter that works in my car. I don't want to use an inverter for this.

Apple should license the use of the MagSafe so others could make adapter for the computer. What's with creating an awesome idea and then keeping it locked away.

There are a number of things to consider for a power supply... apart from just it's rated output. Different manufacturers may use lower quality components that don't regulate that output as well. For example, a power supply designed for something like a portable CD player (or similar device) may not have the strictest control on voltage fluctuations. Something like a portable CD player is probably much more tolerant of varying input voltages (to a degree). There is also the issue of how "clean" the power is, grounding, etc. Noise in the power going to something like a CD player isn't really going to generally impact the devices performance. When you're talking about something like a notebook, you want to be sure your power supply is the highest quality... not the cheapest available. All power supplies are not created equal. In general, you'll find that all notebook power supplies are much more expensive than a generic power supply that just provides the same output voltage/wattage. While third party chargers are often less expensive than the original manufacturers, they are still not cheap and generally run in the $60 and up range (from companies like Kensington and Targus). Your notebook is too valuable to to risk its safety by saving a few $$ on a generic charger... especially one which is basically a "cut & tape" job. You have no way of knowing if they have configured the connections to the MagSafe correctly (there are more than just two wires involved).

Its not the cost of the adapter its the fact Apple doesn't even offer one for their unique MagSafe connector. I need: An automobile/12V adapter for my new MacBook.

I just think it ***** that Apple introduces a proprietary connector without any real world support/accessories. Maybe instead of spending so much R&D on new products (Air comes to mind) how about taking care of their existing customers that need accessories such as an auto adapter for their new MacBook?! ***!
