I've kept my old PC running '98 because it provides the maps for my magellan GPS through a serial com port. I guess I could run the software through Virtual PC but how would I connect to the GPS unit? I would love to dump the PC and use my G5 for everything.

In theory a serial/USB convertor may work, in practice I don't think it would.
Thanks iFelix. I have thought about those serial/USB convertors but would Virtual PC recognise the serial port? Your reply suggests that you don't think it would. Looks like I'm stuck with the PC for a bit.
You could try and see if it does, but based on my experiences you may find it doesn't work.
Me too
I have an old dell laptop running win98 just for my Garmin gps
Would love to go fully mac but two hours searching web has proven fruitless.
I would rather stay as I am than try to work through a hybrid mix and risk screwing everything up, ie if it ain't broke (and apple doesn't offer a dedicated application) then don't try and fix it
Hopefully when gps has become main stream (soon will be on all mobile phones I suspect) then 'iTrack' will appear and my 'iPod' will take me there whilst playing my favourite tunes

Hi yerpal, I've got other needs for VPC so I'm going to give that a go. Sounds as if, from iFelix and other threads that, it probably won't work but I'll post again if I get any joy.
Well I've tried it, iFelix is right it doesn't work. Weird though. VPC7 sees the serial/USB convertor and lets me set it as COM 2, but then the App can't find anything connected to COM 2. So that's useful! Any tips of any setting I could try or whatever??
