Ipod won't work unless it's plugged into computer

i've been trying to fix my younger sister's ipod for awhile now, i've did the 5 troubleshooting steps or what not, i've called in, i've registered it to be sent to be fixed online, which never works (that's another story) it's an ipod nano second generation, and it will only work once you plug it into the computer, otherwise you get nothing. it won't turn on, nothing. but when it's plugged into the computer you can do anything, but as soon as it gets unplugged it will freeze at the screen you were on and stop working. i dont know what to do ! any suggestions ?

I have the SAME problem too... its NOT the battery.. i JUST got this today.. 12/25/07 and I have been charging it... then, when it says its Charged fully, i eject it from the iTunes/USB... and then, I disconnect the USB cord... the the screen goes black, and Whatever was on the screen, breaks up.. and freezes.. then slowly dissapaits... and dissapears... I then cannot turn it on...

It ONLY works when I have it plugged into the computer and hooked up to iTunes.. Its making me mad, seeing as I have paid like $200 for an realiable iPod nano *2nd generation*..... Support does NOT help at all.. and when it is unplugged from the USB, it wont reset then... just when its plugged in...

I have a PC Windows XP and its a Toshiba.. Works fine... and the iPod nano is new... Please, if you can, help...

Thank you,
Elizabeth

I feel that my daughter, too is suffering from a problem like you all's. She recieved a brand new 3rd gereration iPod today. She uploaded her music, and set the iPod aside, she confirmed it was off, she came back an hour or so later to listen to her new iPod. The screen showed up at frist but when she quickly pressed play the screen went black. We tried plugging into the computer, and we even have a wall adapter that isnt working.
