is a sony digital8 model dcr-trv310 compatible with a mac?

anyone have one or one like it?, I have located one to buy but want to be sure it will work for transferring 8mm cassette video to imovie before buying it.

I have a TRV310 and find it a great asset, it allows me to import Video 8 Hi8 and Digital8 to my iMac and MacBook Pro via iLink (Firewire) I can also pass straight into my Firewire HD (External 350MB) to share the Movie clips between my iMac (Leopard) and Laptop (Tiger). I have even moved video from VCR through the Sony to the Mac with great results.

I use a Sony model TRV330 Digital8 camcorder and it works great for me with iMovie4. So yes in general they are compatible.
However I iMovie '08 does appear to be a rather different beast than the older versions of iMovie, so if you have trouble with iMovie '08, you might try downloading iMovie HD 6 and giving that a try in case '08 does something different now with the way it imports from camcorders.

Maybe someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong. I have a Sony TRV-310 and I'm try to connect to my new imac. I'm using a firewire connection 6/4 wire. The problem I'm having is that when I connect to my mac and start imovie to import nothing happens. HELP!

Fish202, I've had issues as well, and sometimes it can be as simple as hooking everything up in the correct order: open iMovie, connect firewire to camera, then to computer, then turn on power to camcorder.
That's made it difference for me. Hopefully it helps you as well.

Nothing happens meaning iMovie doesn't actually start? Or that it starts and you don't see the connected camcorder?
