Display Wake Up/Strange Grainy Blueish-Green Pixels...

You are not alone. I get these Blue and Green pixels all over the screen from all my Macs that have been updated to OS 10.4.11 - This includes my G5 running an ATI X800. My work MacPro with the top of the line Quadro card and 30inch Cinema Display and my MacPro 17 inch Laptop. This occurs after awake from sleep or sometimes after screen saver or screen sleep returns. I reinstalled my wifes iMac intel Core Duo 1.8 Ghz to 10.4.10 and it has no issues anymore. I would say it is definitely an "upgrade" issue. I have seen many with Leopard also have this same issue or similar issues with their video cards. - BTW this issue was also in the very first versions of OSX Tiger for some configurations, so it is likely a ghost in the code somewhere.

Current solution for those in Leopard - don't let your computer sleep nor use screen saver. ( Use up electricity and make our environment dirty 🙂 ) Tiger same or go back to zero with your system and update only to 10.4.10 at most maybe leave it even earlier. Problem there is security updates. On Tiger.. I notice if I ignore all those funky blinking blue and green pixels on my Photoshop screen for a while they sometimes go away, but it does annoy.

I first saw this in Windows XP installed on the 17" Macbook Pro laptop and it makes it impossible for me to use the rest of my Adobe Production Suite, which is windows only. For this there has been no solution, as the video drivers Apple gives us on the X1600 mobiles does not work right and ATIs don't install. But, I was surprised when I saw the same issue start to show up in all of my Macs after updating to 4.11.

I have the same problem with my MACPro and not with my MACMini or MACBook !!!

When I call Apple they just suggest the usual, reset PRAM, reset SMC, re-install OSX. None of these things help, unfortunately.

I had a MacBook Pro hooked to a Apple 30" monitor and never saw this until I bought a DVI extension cable because I wanted to get the Power brick off my desk. I assumed I got a lousy cable and was getting some random noise and I didn't worry about it. Fast forward to Friday; I bought a MacBook Air and then found out it won't work with a 30" display. I turned it in yesterday for a new MacBook Pro and after a few hours the green pixels appeared. I have the "Earth" as a background and my first thought was "I don't remember the earth having all those lights displayed". Then I noticed they weren't in the right spots and they were all over the place. I read through the forum, put the computer to sleep and now its fine.

I have exactly the same problem. Problem shows up when the Mac Book Pro (new model bought in march 2008) is hooked to 30" Cinema display and the computer is awoken after sleep mode.

What helps in my case is to unplug and replug the DVI connector cable of the Cinema display.

Hope this is fixable by software update.
