VPC & PC viruses

Since I bought my PowerBook, I have very much enjoyed my virus-free life. I need to load VPC but don't want to until I understand how PC viruses can affect my system. Will I have to once again hassle with virus protection, or not??

Patrick,
PC virusses will NOT effect your system in any way. The only danger you face is, being a carrier. You can transfer virusses to PC users. I run Virex on my 10.3.9 rig and nothing on my Tiger rig. I have only had one incident with a Cookie virus that did not effect my system at all, but....

If you are in a network with PCs it is wise to install some sort of antivirus cos you might be the only one that can stop it, but otherwise, it is of little concern.

VirtualPC is just as suspectible to viruses, trojans, spyware as any real PC.

However the only damage it can do is to the Virtual PC itself (not the application, but the Virtual PC file). At this point you can just delete the file and start again. It will not affect your Mac applications or files.

If running VPC you should be running an anti-virus application, firewall and check for sypware on the Virtual PC. Note that Mac anti-virus software will not work or detect viruses on a virtual PC.

AV software may not harm your OS, but will certainly slow down performance. This may be important for VPC, that will take some time to open as it is.
I use what I've mentioned in my previous post with a PC that I connect via Ethernet. If a similar solution can be used you'll be fine.If you wish to have your mail "cleaned" up, use a .Mac account-it's cheaper than a good AV, and gives more.If you want to use AV ( with no disrespect for the above mentioned ) buy a good one.The one that may send you a virus probably had good AV-from which it went past!
