Mac on PC network

Hello all,

I have read the networking posts below. I have a dell 8300 and an old B&W g3. I recently bought a d-link di-604 wired router, and hooked it up. I got the cable internet connection on both no problem.

I do not have file/print sharing working yet. I have tried Ifelix's guides on the file sharing protocals and have files shared on both computers. I also have server services tured on. I'm using the d-link firewall and I have accounts/pw set up on both machines.

When I try to connect from the mac to the pc from the "go" menue I get "no file services are available at the url afp://smb//192.168.0.100 (wich is the ip of the pc) Also when I click on the "local network" icon the pc doesn't show up in the list only my mac.

I have a similar situation with the pc....I see the shared folders on the pc but no mac to be found.

anyone have a clue as to what I'm missing?

oops typo.... i tried using smb://192.168.0.100 on the mac to connect to the pc

192.168.0.101 is the one i tried to use to connect to the pc from the mac. using the \\192.168.0.101\username format. This gives me the "folder you entered does not appear to be valid. Please choose another." message. I have double checked the sharing...currently I have everything on both computers shared....not the best idea I know, but I'll tweek that once i get them talking.

On the Mac

Finder -> Go -> Connect to Server

smb://IP Address of PC/name of shared folder

example smb://192.168.0.8/ifelix

On the PC

Type in \\IP Address of Mac\Mac Username

example

\\192.168.0.10\jimbo

Note ensure that the PC is not running any kind of firewall or internet security software and has an account with a username and a password.
