Sony TDM-IP1 iPod dock and iPod Classic

I'm interested in getting the Sony TDM-IP1 iPod dock to go with my sony AV receiver, but I need to know if it'll be compatible with my 80GB iPod classic. I checked the manual on Sony's site, and it says it's compatible with the 5G iPod video, but I think the manual was written before the classic came out. I also contacted Sony customer support, and they said that they haven't done testing on it's compatibility with the iPod classic. So does anyone know if this will work or not (both video and audio)?

I found the following comments on Amazon:

+iSeries Rules says:+

+Ok, so I took the time to talk to Sony (2 hours on the phone) and Apple (1 hour on the phone) about this.+

+Sony tell me that the iPod classic has the same specifications for the connection port as the iPod 5th gen Video. So, they believe that the problem is in the iPod classic's firmware. They did say that they were going to get their engineer's to look at connecting a classic up to see why it is not working.+

+So, the Apple story. Apple looked at this and said that the classic's video out was slightly different than the 5th gen. But, after looking at it a little more closely, and looking at some of the products that Apple sell for similar functionality (video out to TV/Receiver), they then started to feel that there may be an issue with the hardware/firmware. They also indicated that they had received reports of the classic working with similar products, and then failing to work after a recent firmware upgrade.+

+Apple also indicated that they would contact their engineers regarding the connection to the Sony Digital Media port, and give reasons as to why it is not working, and whether there is some way to make it work.+

+I should hear back within the next few days (given that tomorrow is friday, it may be early next week).+

+Hopefully this matter will be resolved by a firmware update.+

+What was really dissapointing was I plugged in my friends 5th gen, and it worked a charm. So it can work...+

Just took delivery of my Sony TDM-iP1.
Plugged in my 80GB 5th gen Classic to discover audio works fine ,on screen menus ok but can't playback video or photos no matter what settings I use.In "Tv Out" mode it appears the Ipod does not recognise it is connected to the sony product state "Connect to Audio,Visual Device"
Any more info/update to previous post and will there be an firmware/software update available at some future time.

Two days ago I got the latest iPod Classic 160gbyte and also downloaded latest op sys.

On the TDM-IP1, with the red light showing on the docking station, I can get music to play through the Home Theatre system. The HT Remote also works the menu and controls on the iPod.

Press the button to the green button and it all ceases. The screen on the iPod says "conntected to DM-Port" in a quite nice looking screen but I lose the sound, the ability to change the menu with the remote and I don't have a menu on the screen.

Any ideas anyone?

Had same issue when I first connected my TDM iP1. Had to use the supplied video lead to output menu to a spare av channel. You then select the Av channel and the menu will be there then you can use your remote. Can't understand why you have to do this and yet it won't allow video and photo playback on screen in the same way!!
