Unable to uninstall Quicktime in Vista

I can't uninstall Quicktime from my computer. It is not there in 'uninstall a program' in control panel. My computer is running Windows Vista Home Premium. I did have Quicktime installed and now it's just weird cause it appears in the 'Program Files' folder in C drive and is there in the start menu but when I try to open Quicktime it doesn't work, even the uninstaller from the start menu doesn't work. I have only one user account on this notebook; hence it is the administrator account.

That's more traditionally an XP or 2000 issue (with Add/Remove programs). But the same procedure for uninstalling QuickTime under those circumstances should also work on Vista.

(I'm assuming here that you've got a 32-bit Vista.)

Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. then use it to clear any existing QuickTime installation configuration information from your PC. (Run the Utility, find any QuickTime entries in the list of programs that appear in CleanUp, select the QuickTime entries, and then click “Remove”.)

Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility

Next, we’ll manually remove leftover program files and folders.

1. On the Start menu, click Computer.

2. In Computer, open Local Disk.

3. Open Program Files.

4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.

5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.

6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx. (If “Hide filename extensions for known file types” is enabled on the PC, then those two files will appear as “QuickTime” and QuickTimeVR”.)

7. Restart your computer.
