Safari - Java not working properly

I have been visiting sites and have had no problem with java.
Now when visiting a site with a java script, I get the java logo in the center of the web page with noting else. In preferences, enable java and java script are both marked.

Help.

Just to clarify things, Java and Javascript are two animals.

Usually when javascript doesn't work on a web page it just don't work, without warnings. And if you have javascript turn off in the browser you might get a warning that you have javascript turned off. I've never seen a javascript logo.

On the other hand when Java doesn't work on a web page you will usually get a warning. And there is a Java logo. I have a feeling your talking about Java.

But the again not seeing the page who knows.

Here is a sample url, that I had this problem with.
On this page there is an inner box where you can select files for uploading...
I do not see any images inside this box but the "java" symbol with (2) arrows circling around it.

http://www.samsphotoclub.com/upload/upload_photo.asp

Wish there was a way to upload an image for you to see, within the discussion board.

Thanks again..

Hi

As David posted, the infamous Java coffee cup is an indicator of Java, not Javascript.

The site works correctly for me, i.e. no coffee cup, simply an area for dragging images for the upload. Go to your Utilities folder>Java and open the Java Preferences. In the panel, make sure Java 2SE 5.0 is selected, or at least at the top of the list of available Java. Also, click on settings. In the ensuing panel select "view applets". There, click on the URL column head, then scroll down to the "samsphotoclub" entries. Highlight and delete. Then close the panels. Restart Safari and try the site again.

Thanks for trying to help.

None of what you suggested helps.
I went into Java prefs and did as you suggested and nothing. Went into Safari prefs/security and checked everything again, nothing.

When I went into viewing the applets, like you suggested, there was only one and no others.
There was no "samsphotoclub" entry.

After making what could have been changes, which there wasn't, I restarted my Mac and still nothing or no change to viewing the site.

Hi

There ought to have been at least 3 SamsClub entries in that Java folder. Appears something is blocking Java. Do you have any 3rd party Safari items installed such as PithHelmet? Are you seeing the "coffee cup" with any other site(s)?

Java Test: Which version of Java appears in the pink box on this page?

Another suggestion: Trash the existing Java related preferences in your User Account>Library>Preferences folder: com.apple.java.JavaPreferences, log-out/in, then restart Safari.

Hi
No 3rd party Safari items installed.
there are no entries in the applets.
I see the coffee cup on other sites, but off the top of my head I can't recount any in particular.
Samclub was just the most recent.

On the test page you suggested, I don't see a version only the "coffee cup" image.

I did what you suggested, trashing "com.apple.java.JavaPreferences" and logged out / restarted, etc.
and nothing different. I even checked my security settings and java prefs under utilities afterwards, nothing......

I tried re-installing after all these, nothing..

Thanks

You ought to see your version of Java appearing in the provided link. Hmmm.

Two things to check (sometimes the "obvious" is not so obvious. 🙂 )

Safari Preferences>Security: Make sure "enable java" is selected. I realize you posted initially it was "enabled", however, nonetheless, good to check again. If selected, deselect, then select it again. Try a Java site.

If no go, then try Safari from another User Account. There, open a java site. Same result?

Safari Prefs>Security: enabled, has been, I've checked it several times. Tried unselecting and redoing and didn't work.

Created another user account: opened Safari and Java did work....it asked for permission on the site, just as it should. And the applets are in the J2SE 5.0>Java Preferences: under settings>view applets.

When switching back to administrator account, there isn't any changes. Still doesn't work.
I checked settings in the other account and compared them to settings in admin account and they are the same ?????

This is a good one, huh?

Do you have anything installed in here:

/Users/YourUsername/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/

Good call iBod. As a rule I have all my plug-ins at the top level. I sometimes forget they can live in other places too. 🙂

As a rule, Apple's Java plug-in is installed at the top level. Curious how it would find its way to the User Level other than manually placed?
