Importing from Sony HDD DCR-SR60

Hi,

I'm trying to import movies from my Sony HDD DCR-SR60 into iMovie 08 without much luck. I have to drag the files to the hard drive and then reformat them using MPEG Streamclip before importing them as movie files. This is what I had to do in iMovie HD 07. I was hoping iMovie 08 would enable me to do this. The compatibility list includes the Sony DCR-SR100 but not the SR60. I've looked at the specs and can't see any difference.

Does anyone know if I can import from the DCR-SR60 and if so, how? and if not, why not (just out of interest)?

Thanks,
Jason

Jason,

I'm in the same boat... just purchased a Sony DCR-SR82 Hard disk recording camcorder. According to Apple, it is one of the supported models in iLife 08 - but for the life of me I cannot figure out how to get it to work. I'm using an Intel Imac...

Anyone with any ideas? I'd really appreciate the help!

Rob
P.S. I've downloaded Streamclip... it doesn't help either.

I´ve got the *+Sony DCR-SR42+* and it´s the same problem guys !
I love my mac but now i´m so disappointed. The last thing i would imagine is not being able to edit the videos of my new camera. And i don´t know about you, but, by using Mpeg Streamclip y can convert the files so that QT and iMovie plays them, but, here´s the thing, the quality of the final video ***** ! i guess it might be because of the converting so many times the clips.

If anyone has a real answer please give us a hand.

Thanks,
guille

I just bought the DCR-SR42 myself and went through all the same problems. My Mac wouldn't acknowledge it was there, it wouldn't download the videos, the software is incompatible, etc. I read a post saying to try IMovie 08, so I went and bought ILife 08 at the Apple Store. I had to download the latest Mac OS X updates prior to installing it. After downloading ILife 08, I tried the video camera again and it worked flawlessly. I downloaded, edited, and burned my videos to disc. I didn't use any software- I just plugged the camera into the computer via the USB port/charging station that was supplied w/the camera. Getting ILife 08 fixed some other problems I was having as well in other programs.
