MSN Messenger and sending files

I have never been able to drop a file or photo into the Messenger dialogue window and send it. The other person can see that I am trying to send and after a few seconds from having 'accepted' the file transfer an error message appears saying that the transfer was blocked and that I should contact my ISP provider. This is hardly the case since I tried doing this maneuver at three different places in the US, four in Australia and two in the UK, from both a PB and an iBook, and on lines that my PC and Mac brethren could happily send files. Cannot do it on my home PM dual 1.8..... btw, I can receive files without a hitch. Microsoft offered suggestions with firewalls etc, all to no avail. Any ideas/

I'm not an expert on Tiger. Have you tried "repairing permissions" and checking your "ownerhip & permissions"? Try deleting all msn "preferences". You'll find those in the user/library/perferences/microsoft folder.

Open Ports 6891-6900 also if using a firewall. Check your contacts also. They must have the same ports open on their firewall. The problem may not be your end. btw..you're not alone in the file transfer not working.

If all else fails try the following software they work.

aMSN (a clone MSN Messenger) go to their forum and download the beta version -- http://forums.cocoaforge.com/viewforum.php?f=14 -- It has text, file transfer, webcam, NO voice as yet. Remember it will have bugs as it is a beta version. Read FAQ’s. PC users do not need this program, they can use the normal msn messenger.

Mercury (a clone MSN Messenger) go to their forum and download the beta version -- http://www.mercury.to/index.php?page=Forum -- It has text, file transfer, webcam, NO voice as yet. Remember it will have bugs as it is a beta version. Read FAQ’s. PC users do not need this program, they can use the normal msn messenger.

An after thought here. Make sure you are showing "visible" when you send a file transfer.

Did all the usual things you mentioned, to no avail, then downloaded aMSN. This worked perfectly but it looks so basic, so I went online with MSN, a friend came on and I loaded up a file and hit Send just for the **** of it. IT WORKED!!!!

I have to assume that a port(s) not previously opened, opened. Have gone back to see what they might be... no idea what as nothing seems to have changed in the "Sharing" panes.
