edirol fa-66, question about stereo recording

-i didn't exactly know where to post this question-.

I have recently bought an edirol fa-66 firewire sound card and tried it with my mac. It works flawlessly but i have one question for you who have experience with it:
Isn't it possible to record in both channels with a single xlr input? When plugging in my mic to input 1 it only records in the left channel. and vice versa. Anybody know how to solve this?

Hi,

Stereo recording requires TWO. sound sources, not one. Might I ask as to why you would want to use teh same single mic recorded twice? the signal is not goint=g to magically turn into stereo just because you feed it inot two inputs.

You should record into a Mono channel in Logic, not a stereo one. that will "fix" the issue of the signal only appearing in the left channel. The Mono / Stereo / Surround configuration for a channel is at the bottom, the little circles you see below the meter strip. Here is what they mean:

One Circle : Mono track

Two Circles : Stereo track

Two Circles left one dark : plays only the LEFT side of a stereo file

Two Circles right one dark : plays only the RIGHT side of a stereo file

Five Circles in a Pentagram : Pour Holy Water on your Computer!!! (just kidding) Surround record and playback. Yes, record AND playback.

Cheers

There is no problem to solve. One input means one channel. If you want stereo just duplicate the mono channel in whatever post software you are using. It is not possible to record stereo with only one input. If you had two mics, or whatever, running into each xlr input you would be recording "stereo." I quote because keep in mind that what you will have is the audio from one input recorded to one channel and the audio from the second input recorded to another channel. Your two inputs are not going to magically mix together into one stereo track or anything like that.
