Ipod Nano Firmware Update Problems

I have been unable to download ipod firmware update version 1.0.3 for my nano 3g, the connection always times out. the best I have ever done is 3Mb. This is a common problem I have for downloads. I need to see the file offered for download from a web page. Then my download manager takes over and, for reasons I don't understand, downloads are then successful. Can anyone give advice or refer me to a download site?

I have that same problem. I'm afraid that downloading the zipped files off the web links some users provided may screw up your system (Mac/Pc) or iPod or both. Some users recommend downloading the zipped files, others don't. Some users in other threads say that it would be wise keep version 1.0.2 for a while and wait out until Apple Inc. fixes the problems in version 1.0.3. I would wait until Apple Inc. fixes the problems in version 1.0.3 or wait for version 1.0.4 to be released. My nephew has this saying... "Newer versions of a software isn't always better."

Thanks for your helpful comments. I used someone else's pc to download the update before I read your comment. It seems OK. My download manager is Free Download Manager. It seems to be able to maintain a respectible download speed as well as provide resume support but it doesn't pick up itunes downloads. Talktalk did not warn me that connection speeds in my area are pathetic.

ummm ... not sure 1.0.2 or 1.0.3 makes a difference. I've gone through TWO Gen3 iPods this Xmas. First 4GB nano I upgeaded to 1.0.3 and had the same problem as EVERYONE has specifid in these threads. I took the iPod back and exchanged it. The second Gen3 iPod I DID NOT upgrade and left at 1.0.2 and had the extact same problem. I can take my wifes Gen2 iPod I bought her last year and have non issues - none. I connect the new Gen3 and all kind od issues. But the old one back on and it is recognized immediatley and works just fine. ITS THE iPOD UNIT ITSELF!!! Waiting to hear back from Apple as to what to do. There is no assurence that 1.0.4 will work either - but looking at the HUNDREDS of issueson the topic they have to do something - we can't all be wrong with our process .... especially those of us that have two in the house where one works and one doesn't.

Does anyone still have on their computer the 1.0.2 files for a 3gen Nano. I can't find it anywhere. I was able to find it for the Classic but it won't downgrade my Nano. You need to look in application data/apple computer/itunes/ipod upgrade in this file should be two files ipod_130.1.0.2ipsw and ipod_130.1.0.2ipsw signature (something like that). If anyone could send me this file I would appreciate it, the 1.0.3 won't allow 2nd party video players to work with it.
