Bug: "Remove attachment" deletes entire message when using IMAP Gmail

Anybody else seen this bug?

1. I receive a message in Mail from my Gmail account. The message has an attachment.
2. I select Message > Remove Attachments.
3. The entire message is deleted from my Inbox, not just the attachment. (It still exists in All Mail, however.)

Anybody seen this happen with other Mac email clients, as well?

Yesterday I found a thread on Google Groups about this issue, which apparently affects Gmail POP mail as well. The post (from July, in pre-IMAP days) says that the inability to separate an attachment from its message is a set feature of Gmail. Here's the thread:

http://groups.google.com/group/Gmail-Problem-solving/browse_thread/thread/337613 edc8aa91f/884200569387a363?q=%22Removing+attachment%22&lnk=sbp#884200569387a36

I did discover that, if I drag the message into a local folder in the "On My Mac" section of Mail, then I can remove the attachment.

I just recently upgraded to Leopard, and I am noticing all sorts of weird behavior with Apple Mail.

If I do a "remove attachment" to some non-Gmail messages, it removes the attachment, and also the contents of the message for certain messages. I can't find a pattern just yet as to which messages this is happening to.

And I just tested the Gmail remove attachments issue, and can confirm it on this end as well. I don't recall this happening under 10.4.11 either, but can't be sure.
