hey
i have had this ipod shuffle since may. at first it worked great. if i didn't use it, it held its charge for a week later. now, i find it is not holding the charge for even a day even after i charge it till goes from orange til the light is green. here is also a weird thing. i can unplug the ipod after it has finished charging to green and plug in my headphones and push play with the ipod switch in the off position and it will play music. has anyone else had this problem or can anyone help me? i cannot talk to apple support chat because the ipod shuffle is over 90 days from it's purchase.
thanks in advance.

IF you have access to an Apple Store within reasonable distance, make an appointment with teh Genius Bar to take a look at it, they may choose to give you a replacement after you describe the problem with the switch...

On the subject of the switch, are you absolutely certain that you're not confusing the mode switch with the OFF switch (which is next to the LED)?

i know the off switch is the little button next to green led light.
all i know is that after i charge it, the button is in the off position at that point you can press play and music will start playing. if you move the switch to the on off position, there should be a green panel that slide across. if it is in the off position, you get no green panel. again. after using it for 30 minutes tuesday at the gym, today it is totally dead and will not come on at all. we are talking no lights on led or anything. so after charging for 4 hours and using it for 30-45 minutes, it is now dead again.
i know that something is majorly wrong.
    again, thanks for the advice.

Hmmm... using it at the gym? You may be getting moisture (perspiration) in it which
can short it out causing it to stop playing or other erratic behavior.

I just bought a new Shuffle and it stopped working (no lights, no nothing) the third time I took it to the gym. Is perspiration really a problem with the newer shuffle?

My Creative Labs, 1-AAA cell, 256MB was working fine after years in the gym. I don't mean to be bitter about this, I'm just disappointed after I bought what I assumed was a superior product.

I've put my shuffle in a warm, dry place and we will see what happens in a few days. Any other ideas to fix this problem and/or prevent it from happening again?

Yes ... pay attention to how and where you clip the shuffle. Moisture can enter the controls if in contact with damp surface, OR can enter through the earphone jack along the earphone wire... positioning the shuffle such that the earphone socket is down will prevent the latter.

I recently discovered that the mode switch on my shuffle is very sensitive and will change from play-in-order to shuffle with a tiny positional movement. Interestingly, that resulted in behavior that, on the surface looked like the shuffle just quit! I normally listen to to audiobooks and other spoken material which are set to NOT be shffled... however , I forgot to set ONE 1/2 hour radio show to not shuffle. When I accidentally nudged the mode switch, the shuffle switched to playing that show. Trying to get bact to the audiobook I had been playing by multiple << presses confused the issue totally since the shuffle now displayed absolutely no indication of the button presses...it behaved as if it were dead! Turning it off and on didn't help either. Since it was dark, I couldn't see that the mode switch was slightly out of its normal play-in-order position, either. I put the shuffle away and soldiered on listening to a different audiobook on my nano.

I guess this is the part that confuses me. Isn't the point of the shuffle (with built-in clip) to wear while working out? I'm not trying to use it underwater, I just want to take it to the gym. Very frustrating. I understand that even cool electronics can be sensitive, but Apple should understand who is buying their products and why.

    Still drying.....

i have a new small shuffle..after charging and the green light is on, when i remove it from the charging base the green light stays on for a few seconds and then dies..ideas??
  • 0Ari0 Level 5 Level 5 (4,995 points)
Yes... it's doing EXACTLY what it's supposed to do. In other words, the behavior you describe is NORMAL. Shuffle's LED does not continue showing green or anything else on a continuous basis when UNplugged.

now when i put it in the charger it blinks orange three times and then no light and it won't sync with the computer..still normal??
  • 0Ari0 Level 5 Level 5 (4,995 points)
    THAT's not normal...

hey 0ari0... can you look at this issue for me...

hope i can get some help to solve my shuffle charging problem... and other issues, that are probably all connected.

    here we go..
problem 1... the led flashes regularly in the orange sequence and never shows green unless i'm synching and then only briefly.
#2..it wont eject because windows or something else in windows is using the files in the shuffle, all of which is news to me and i'm not using it except via itunes, ver 7.0.
I've also changed the setting to "enable disk use"...still the lamp continues to flash as if and i quote from the shuffle features guide...do not disconnect, itunes is synching, or ipod is enabled for disk use. It was not enabled for disk use until today, and enabling it for disk use has made no difference to the blinking orange sequence. approx 2 secs on, 1 sec off.
shuffle shows green when in use and undocked, charge lasted approx 60mins, and the use was only about 60 mins, 5 days later it was flat.(no use during the 5 days)
I've tried updating the windows shuffle driver, it says the most up to date driver is loaded.
all other stuff works ok, can download tunes etc and plays back as well.

    thx,...Tony

i've got a dell inspiron with XP home edition

I found the answer in another thread. The problem was my anti-virus software. it "watches" the device, gives the impression that the Ipod is in use by the application. When I turned off the anti-virus software, I was able to eject the shuffle, connect, and eject again without any problem.

Repeat, turning off the anti-virus software solved the problem

Hi, My ipod shuffle is doing the same thing ie. not holding the charge. After charging the light is green but when I take it off the charger it will play if I press play even if the power button is off. Once going you can pause it but not turn it off and it will just quit at times suddenly such as if you press the fast forward button. It may have gotten wet from sweat. If that is the case is it " dead" or is there a way to fix it?
