I have a Panasonic HDC-SD5 camcorder, and it doesn't seem to work at all with FCE 4. No matter what I try, I never see the content on the camera, and I cannot download it to the application. The data mounts to the desktop, but it just never gets to app. I have the same issue with iMovie '08.
Any suggestions? The camera is fine, I assume, since I have no problem using the PC software that came with it and getting the data off the camera to a Windows machine.
HELP!!!!!
iMac 24 Intel 2.8Ghz,
Mac OS X (10.5.1),
4GB RAM, 750GB HDD
I am having the same problem. I kept restarting iMovie and got it to recogniez the camera over USB but that one time out of like 30-40 I tried is the only time it woked. I can see as a mounted drive but imovie or fce 4 dont allow me to import it.
If the drive mounts, make a new folder and copy ALL the contents of the memory card into the folder. Unmount the drive. Open FCE, open log and transfer, click the open folder button and navigate to the folder with the media. Select the folder not its contents. What happens?
I found out that its a leopard problem. I switched back to Tiger and no problems at all. I returned the SD5 and got an HV20 now. 699 on sale at circuit city. Way better camera.
I tried on both of my intel Mac and I only got it to work about %10 of the time. I even reinstalled Leopard. Must be a combination of SD card, SD card reader and chipsets.
