iChat 4 text encoding

iChat 4 text encoding

I have a problem with text encoding under ICQ account on iChat 4. Any text in Cyrillic encoding sent to me is shown with Western European characters. Is there a solution to this? Some kind of text encoding option?

Mac OS X (10.5.1)

Go to System Preferences > Internetional and set it to a display format that allows the characters you want

No changes. I still get cyrillic messages from users with different icq clients in different encoding

It wasn't a font problem. But I've found a solution - but it's cyrillic only.

One person wrote an input manager that re-encodes incoming cyrillic text to unicode before. Here's his blog post with the link (in Russian): http://community.livejournal.com/rumac****/563488.html

I wish Apple would implement a re-encode option for iChat, but seems that they forgot that there's still a possibility for non-unicode text to come from ICQ accounts.

EDIT: The filtered part of the link is f-word... the guy has that nickname, I can't do anything 🙂
