Empty CD/DVD icon not removed from desktop after eject

I could not find this discussed anywhere. Since upgrading to Leopard, I am having a weird problem with blank CD/DVDs.

When inserting a blank medium to burn on, Leopard mounts it as a "Untitled DVD" icon on the desktop. When I then press eject either before or after a successful burn, the disc will eject but the icon will not be removed from the desktop.

Furthermore, I cannot then eject the remaining icon another time. Trying to do so produces an error message: "You are trying to burn an empty DVD. Are you sure?" (which is obviously absurd).

Additionally, if I then reinsert the DVD, it will again be mounted as a blank DVD, now titled "Untitled DVD 2". This process can be repeated, resulting in further mounts of these two.

This happens regardless of whatever programme I use - the finder, disk utility, or Toast 8.03.

Any suggestions?

Seems I'm Number two, same problem
Manually putting the symbol in the trash works.

This has been happening to me with Tiger almost from the beginning. I can't even rstart my computer when the cd images remain on the desktop. I have to manually pull the plug in order to shut down the computer. When I plug it back in and start up the cd images are gone.

I have tried to manual put it in the trash, but that isn't working for me. Trick is, I don't always notice the remnant icons until i have a few of them on there, because this usually happens when I am downloading a few CDs or burning a few at a time, so I will end up with folders as CD icons. I will try to "trash" them, "apple E" them or use the eject button on them, either individually or as a group and all will fail. The only solution will be a restart. Any other suggestions are welcome.

How are you ejecting the blank/burned DVD? Via the eject button on your keyboard or via the eject button on the drive or the little pin whole manual-eject on the front of some CD/DVD drives?

Sounds like the Finder didn't notice that you ejected the DVD. To find out what the system thinks, launch Applications/Utilities/System Profiler.app and see if it still thinks there is media in the drive (under ATA, Firewire and/or the Disc Burning sections).
