1 Unsent Message

For some reason, my phone keeps stating I have one unsent message, but other messages are being sent out. How do I get rid of this problem? At the bottom of the mail screen, it keeps trying to send this phantom message and I can't get rid of it. I think it is hindering the phone's ability to send out other messages as they have been taking extra long lately.
