Voicemail Nightmare with Visual Voicemail Widget

I used one of the free widgets you find in the Widgets section of Apple Downloads. It is called Callwave and it's a freeware widget that allows you to both read & hear voicemail on your computer from your cell phone. The voice function actually worked well, but the text was never right. Their voice to text translator was pretty bad. What the heck, it was free right? So why complain?

Here was the problem. It was exceedingly easy to set up. When I wanted to disconnect the service, it was easy to cut service too. The problem was getting my regular voicemail back. It was exceedingly difficult and it took a tech person from both AT&T and Apple to work in tandem to get it working again. It took 95 minutes for the three of us to get Voicemail back and running properly again. The connection from Callwave left a complex mess for everyone to clean up. Callwave may plead innocent, and maybe they are innocent and it is AT&T and Apple. All I know is that the service disconnect has major problems. Just a word of warning to other people that this may happen to them too. Maybe not and I'm just a fluke. You tell me? Maybe it works better with other cell phones, but certainly not with the iPhone.

Maybe later incarnations will work better, but now it appears to be awful.

iPhone recent version (12-07), Mac OS X (10.4.2)

Does anyone know how to remove Callwave - I installed it and it has take over my greeting which is not acceptable. I have deleted the widget but I want control of my greeting again - I am using an iPhone.

I removed Callwave from my mac also and couldn't figure out how to get back to my regular voicemail. Then I messed around with the widget a little more and if you click the "i" button in the lower right corner of the widget it will show some of your settings. You can then click on the "show activation instructions." after you go back to the main part of the widget it will show the information. It says to deactivate dial ###004#. I tried this and it worked. Immediately after I did that I called my iPhone and my regular voicemail was back.

I hope this helps!

The correct AT&T Callwave de-activation code is: ##004#

Only two #'s at the beginning. Entered the code, got a bunch of reset notices with a "life is good now" green button. Called my phone and the correct voicemail is now working as expected. Callwave should put a BIG FAT notice on the activation page letting iPhone owners know that their Visual Voicemail is about to get hijacked...

_Complete instructions from a Callwave PM_: (pdenman@callwave.com)

1. Find your de-activation code below.
2. Enter the first code exactly as written, as if you're dialing someone.
3. Press "Send" on your phone to dial that number.
4. If multiple codes are given, repeat steps 1 & 2 for each code

AT&T Cingular, T-Mobile, GSM network - ##004#
Verizon, CDMA network - *73, *900, *920
TDMA Network - *740, *730
Bluegrass, Midwest Wireless - *900, *920
Cellcom - *680
Cincinnati Bell - ##004#
Midwest Wireless - *90##, *92##
US Cellular - *740

Hope this makes someones day!
