Slow screen draws

I recently published my website for the first time to my .mac account, no problems. The only thing I have concern about is the extremely slow page draw time. If I access the site directly on my MAC or from my PC (and I've tried this from different locations) the time it takes to draw the page I would have already left. Quickness is key for users to stay.

Anyone else see this? or are there settings I need to adjust?

I'm new to iWeb and the site uses the basic templates provided, nothing fancy here. Check and see for your self, log onto * http://www.cuisinekids.com* Please let me know, it's frustrating.

It loaded fairly quickly for me. While iWebs templates look fantastic, they can sometimes add a lot of graphic items that add time in loading the page. Especially little effects like shadows and the like. My site used to contain a ton of separate shapes with shadows and text fields overlaid, like in the logo I had 5 items to create it in iWeb. I recently created the logo in Photoshop as a .png file with its own logo and now the pages load much faster. I realize you don't have anything like this, but I just wanted to give you an example of how I streamlined my site (which is www.bookendmedia.com).

Google ads might also be adding to your load time. I haven't messed much with those though.

Another thing that adds load time is hosting your site on .Mac while using a personal domain. While this is a very handy feature in '08, .Mac's server is at least 10 times slower than the 3rd party server I use for our site. Plus, it takes time for your personal domain provider's server to divert to the .Mac server for your site files.

In and of themselves, each of these issues don't add much time individually, but when you start adding them up, it starts to slow down load times significantly.

I know I didn't give you any solutions for your site specifically, but hopefully this helps you understand why this is happening.

Good luck!

Loads pretty fast for me as well. Actually, I have an even simpler method which is a cheat but works. If you make up the page in iWeb and then screen capture sections of it ( (bits with shadows, reflections etc. which take time to draw) using the little "grab" programme, then you can reimport the resulting composites as an image which will load much faster. You need to resize this to match the original grab so you need to measure it. I use Photoshop Elements for this, just to see the pixel dimensions. When expanded to its exact size in iWeb, the resultant image will look just the same as the original and you can position it to replace the original (I'd copy the old version of the web page to a "test" site first so as to have a reference and a backup). Cute website, but the way!
