creating/burning XP CD for bootcamp install

I have read and googled as much info on this as I can, but I am tired of creating coasters.

I successfully slipstreamed sp2 into my original version of XP on my work wintel laptop. (since bootcamp requires xp sp2 for install). Yes, I have a legitimate XP CD that I pulled onto my laptop. I don't have any burning software on my work laptop, nor do I want to buy any. Everything I have read tells me that I should be able to transfer all of files to my mac (which I have done via network) and burn an ISO image disk that I can use now as my windows install disk for boot camp.

The problem arises in that when I burn the disk using disk utility, boot camp won't recognize it. I can see the files in finder and my laptop will read the disk too, but boot camp says "installer disk cannot be found". I am fairly confident the problem revolves around how I am creating the image disk. I chose "new disk image from folder" but that obviously can't be the right one since it isn't working.

Can someone provide the steps to create a good xp image CD/DVD so it can be used for boot camp? Worst case I'll use freeware burning software on my laptop if using the Mac is not an option.

Thanks

My guess is that Mac ISO burner isn't getting the boot sector correct. Try following these instructions from Microsoft:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/894947
The only software you have to add to your laptop is a boot sector extractor which Microsoft recommends and tells you how to use.
BTW, what happens if you try and boot the slipstream disc on your laptop?

Several months ago I was in panic because my Win XP CDRom was so much damaged that I could not use it to reinstall my “Dirty” OS.
I also do not like to buy software if it is not really necessary but this time I really had no choice.
Years back I copied a corporate version XP Prof. from a MSDN DVD but copied it the wrong way so that it won’t boot.
This XP CDRom could be my savior IF I could somehow transform it into a working and booting CDRom.

You can extract the boot sector files but I could download a copy somewhere on the Microsoft site.
I could prepare the CDRom completely on my PC with streaming SP2 and all latest Updates (saves you al lot of work installing) But burning an ISO Image of it was only possible using Nero Burning Rom I found out so I bought a complete Nero package which includes Nero Burning Rom.
It is anyhow a good investment I thought.
With Nero Burning Rom it was a peace of cake to create the image file and burn a perfectly working CDRom .

So I think it is not possible using free software and buying Nero saves you a lot of headache but I am willing to learn and if you find an “free” way of doing it I am very curious and interested.

Good luck!

Ok, I knew I was making it way too hard. The deep burn software didn't work, but I kept trying to use the Nero option and I finally realized I can just download a demo of the current version of Nero to accomplish what I want. I don't need to run Nero again, just for the few days that the demo offered. Downloaded, burned and woo hoo it worked.

For others interested in this process, this website is extremely helpful in guiding you through the process.

Just went through the H*ll of making coasters instead of slipstreamed CDs.

I found a free program called "AutoStreamer" that takes your Windows CD and the Windows SP2 file to produce an .iso image file. My version of Nero would not allow me to follow most people instructions, but I burn from and iso image.

For more on AutoStreamer see "Slipstreaming SP1a or SP2 to XP, AutoStreamer and Manual Instructions" ( http://www.ubcd4win.com/slipstream.htm)

This work first time! No coasters and COMPLETELY painless.
