Installing a QuadroFX 4600

I have a G5, quad 2.3 mghz machine and I want to install the nvidia quadro fx 4600 video card in it. I believe it will work. Opened up the machine tonight and it looks like i have to remove everything to get access to the power supply to run the additional power necessary for the fx 4600. Wanted to double check that the video card will work in this machine and see if there are any other options to removing everying to run the additional power supply to the card.

There should be a power connector near the optical drive. Are you sure your QuadroFX 4600 will work in a G5.

If you're referring to this card, it won't work in a Mac. That's a PC card, and won't have the required firmware to work in a Mac.

If you simply made a typo and meant to type fx4500, then make sure you get the one for the G5 and not the Mac Pro. You'll need the power lead like Malcolm mentioned if this is the case.

unfortunately, i do mean the 4600, not the 4500. I got a deal on it and just snapped it up without checking very closely. Okay, hopefully I can return it for a 4500. If not I have a PC workstation that I can use it in, but was hoping to upgrade the g5.
