Pls Help! PS3 Disconnects When Using Bluetooth Headset

Hello all! I am having a VERY frustrating problem that I hope someone can help me with.

I have a PS3 that I have connected wirelessly to the internet using an AEBS. Other than occasional disconnects due to network errors, I have had no problems with my set up.

This week, however, I purchased an LG bluetooth headset for online gaming. I wanted to be able to talk to others while playing Warhawk and Madden. I have not used any audio headset before with the PS3.

I configured the LG headset for the PS3, which recognizes the headset and seems to work fine in the set-up mode. However, as soon as I try to enter an online game server for Warhawk or Madden, I always and immediately get disconnected from the internet.

Because I have not had this problem before adding the bluetooth headset, I am wondering if this has something to do with how the PS3 talks to the AEBS. I am not tech savvy, but have read some posts indicating that certain "ports" may need to be open on the AEBS to be able to handle certain data transfers. If so, could someone tell me what I need to do (in words an only semi-tech literate individual would understand) to fix this? Or any other ideas about how to troubleshoot this problem? (I have called Sony and they were no help.)

If it helps at all, here's some information about my set up. Cable internet, Motorola modem, connected by Ethernet cable to AEBS. PS3 recognizes the network, and is set for "Nat 2" which I have read could be an issue if it's not set that way.

Thanks to all for any help with this and happy holidays!!

Hello devil_domer. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!

Be aware that Bluetooth devices operate in the same radio band (2.4 GHz) as your AirPort Express Base Station (AX), so there is significant possibility that the operation of your Bluetooth headset is causing Wi-Fi interference with your AX ... and why your are getting the disconnects. This would be no different for cordless phones or microwave ovens.

You can try changing the radio channel of either the AX or the Bluetooth headset (or both) to find ones that cause the least amount of interference.

To change radio channels on the AirPort Express Base Station (AX), using the AirPort Admin Utility, either connect to the AX's wireless network or temporarily connect your computer directly (using an Ethernet cable) to the Ethernet port of the AX, and then, try these settings:

AirPort tab
o Channel: <select the desired radio channel, automatic is the default>
o Click on "Update" to save the settings to the AX.
