viewing Nikon D300 images in finder

I just got a D300, and ironically just upgraded to 10.5.1 (from 10.4.11) the day after. I can see thumbnails, files, view them in preview and quickview, and so on.

The only problem I have is that Nikon Transfer doesn't work, which is upsetting.

I'm having the same problem viewing Nef files from a D300 on 10.5.1 using MacBook Pro. NEF files from D200 display just fine in Finder Preview.

I have the same problem on my Mac Pro running on Leopard (10.5.1) and my Macbook Pro running on Tiger (10.4.11). I believe it got to do with the file heading in which the OS does not recognize.

I upgraded my Camera Raw to 4.3.1 and Lightroom to 1.3.1; and that solved my problem. However, if you have Nikon Capture 1.3.1 running on Leopard, you may still cannot view the files in which I do not know why!! But it works on my Tiger.

Let's see what Apple has to say. Maybe Leopard 10.5.2 solves the problem?!

The issue should only occur if you shoot raw. Currently OS X can only display/read certain RAW camera formats. These are OS level, meaning iPhoto, Preview, Mail, Aperture and others are effected. However adobe products are different because they use Adobe Camera RAW.

I would expect JPEGs TIFFs and PSDs, both thumbnails and files, to view fine. RAW files will not view from the D300, but the D200 is supported.

There is no way of knowing when support for the (not-so-)new files will be available. Rumor has it it will be 10.5.2, but only Apple knows that. You can head on over to the Aperture forum and read to see if some have work-arounds.
