-5000 Access Denied error with OS 9 Clients on 10.4

We have noticed in quark + illustrator in OS 9 when they are trying to save to a server running 10.4.2 they get a -5000 access denied error.

However when they connect to a server running 10.3.9 everything appears to be fine. Has anybody any ideas how to fix this?

I think you are out of luck, I had this at a clients site last week with their shiny new 10.4.2 server.

It seems to be a problem with how Quark and Illustrator handle the file access, they mostly save the file and then get it wrong closing. This leaves the file open and malformed, the 'official' Quark get around is save to the desktop and then copy it across in the finder 😟

I can confirm that this is fixed with OS X clients and Quark 5+

I installed my first 10.4 Xserve today for a client (previously done loads of 10.3 servers) and all went fine.

File transfers etc ok.

client then calls saying -5000 access denied errors. Went back to see them and sure enough after doing a simple google search I see that 10.4 is the problem.

Have now got to go back on Monday and degrade them to 10.3 Server to cure the problems 😟

From my understanding of Lock Manager what is does is enforce locks across multiple protocols. So if you disable lockmanager a file that is locked via afp will not show up as locked via samba. Now if you try to access that file via afp it will show up a locked.

In summary disabling lock manager could only be a problem if you operate your server in a multi-platform environment. Somebody please correct me if I am misstating something here.

We have been operating on 10.4 Server for about three months now with lockmanager disabled and haven't run into any file corruption issues due to locking.
