Time Code to Audio Track

Hi

I've looked in the instruction manual and on line and I can't find a way to put a source tape's time code onto audio track 2 on the time line for my transcriber. Is there a way to do this?

Thanks very much!

You really need linear timecode? How are you delivering the movie to your transcription service? On disk or tape? I have a buddy who does legal depositions, his transcription service wouldn't know from linear timecode if it bit them.

There are many timecode systems on the market but FCP by itself has no way to recover digital timecode from an overlay and transpose it to a linear timecode audio track. You need a timecode reader/generator for that but I don't know where it would fit into the workflow. You could capture an audio track from the output of the t/c r/g but there's no way to read it in FCP, AFAIK. This kind of t/c work is usually done during a transfer to tape.

I'm not sure how much this is going to help since I don't know machine specifics, but what you need to do is record your video to tape at the timecode you want. Once it is on tape, patch the timecode out of the deck into the right channel of another tape machine.
I don't know specifics on which decks will do this. I work at a post house where it's all patchable.

Many tape decks have linear timecode readers, true. Might work. Thanks for the contribution.

Depends on what the OP needs to deliver.

Thanks all.

The format that I deliver to my transcriber is mp3 - pgm audio on track 1 and tc on track 2. I usually do it from a VTR with a timecode out but this particular show was recorded on DVCAM and I only have a DSR-11 (no dedicated tc out). That's why I was hoping that there was a way to do it withing FCP - apparently not... oh well.
