ipod stolen-serial number-itunes account questions

My daughter's ipod was stolen. I tried to do the serial number upload but it comes back with "applet not trusted". Why does it say this? I wanted the serial number so I could report it to the police.
Is there anything I should do regarding her itunes account? Could the thief use her account now that they have her ipod?
Thank you for any information.

If you can't get the serial number from the webpage open iTunes 7 for Windows and try looking in:
Help, Diagnostics and then iPod Diagnostics. The last line should be the last iPod connected.

Your iTunes Store account isn't linked in any way to the iPod. The stolen iPod can be used but without having access to your userid and password your store account can't be used.

Thanks again for trying to help, but under Help there is itunes help, ipod help, and run diagnostics. I tried all these and still can't come up with anything. The run diagnostics wants me to connect her ipod, which of course I can't do. The itunes help and ipod help bring a contents and index list but I can't find diagnostics in the list.
Thanks,
Mom

Sorry to take so long getting back but I had to track down a Windows PC to try this out. I'm afraid that I must have picked up information on an earlier version of iTunes 7. I found the same as you that it needs the iPod connected to get any information. The only thing I can suggest is that you start a new thread with reference your "Applet not trusted" message in the title and hopefully another Windows user can help you out on that. Take care
