Logic Pro + Roland XV-5080 Sound Module: How to set it up?

For the life of me, I can't seem to figure out how to get the patch names so I can select them in Logic. I also have a Motif 7 Keyboard which I would like to select patches for within Logic.

I understand how to add a Midi Track and I see the Module names in the Library, but I can't figure out how to access all the sounds and get the patch names installed. I read through the Enviroments Chapter, but I'm not finding it helpful. I read through multiple threads, but I'm still not understanding how to do it.

Before this I used DP4.6 and through Free Midi was how the instruments and patches were set up. I read in one post something about dragging the patches into the Inspector in the environment??? Or downloading a environment for Roland. Not comprehending at all.

Anyone who can help me understand this or point me to some detail instructions. Very much appreciated! Thanks!!

Logic itself cannot "get" patch names from synths - this was handled by Logic's partner application called SoundDiver, which Apple unfortunately killed when they bought Emagic.

You can in many cases find text files of patch names on the internet, and copy/paste these into a multinstrument object.

Better news is, I have an XV-5080 environment with custom bank changes set up - gimme a little while and I'll sort it out and upload it for you. This will allow you to select banks and presets, and call up preset patches by name in Logic...

And I'll explain how to install, set it up and use it...

Ok, you can download it from:
http://bj.angeltowns.com/files/logic/xv5080.logic.zip

Unzip it and load it into Logic. You'll see an environment window, with the XV-5080 multiinstrument. You need to assign it to the MIDI port that your XV-5080 is connected on.

If you are using both MIDI ins for 32-part capability, then simply copy the multi-instrument, and name them both "XV5080 A" and "XV5080 B", setting the correct MIDI output ports on each of the multis.

The multi has the patch names built in, and custom bank messages to access them all. Simply select the bank and program numbers in the inspector as usual. What's in your user bank I have no idea, so the names for those will obviously probably not match up.

The arrange shows one track for each of the multi instruments 16 sub-channels for easy sequencing.

So - to use this, once you've set the correct port on the XV5080 multi-instrument object, copy it and paste it into your startup template. You can create tracks for each of the subchannels if you wish as well, if you are always sequencing the 5080...

(Note: to access/edit patch names, simply double click on the top of the multi-instrument - a new window opens where you can edit banks and names, paste in names, etc)

It can be used for anything. How much use it will be, I've no idea.

The Fantom I believe has the XV5080 sounds (or they can be downloaded from Roland) but whether they use the same bank architecture, whether the bank change formats are the same, I've no idea.

You could use it as a base to develop a Fantom multi, but you'd have to check the bank change formats, which bank messages access the various banks, and move stuff around.

But as it stands, it's an XV5080 multi, not a Fantom X multi, so I can't guarantee it will be useful.
