Hyperlink Problem, slow PDF load

I had previously built a Web site with an earlier version of iWeb, and posted it on my site (not .mac) with no problems. I needed to redesign the site; I used iWeb version 2.02. I did everything the way I did before as far as creating hyperlinks, but this time there were problems. The hyperlinks assigned to text mostly work, but the pdf's associated with them load incredibly slowly. Much slower than previously. Additionally, I tried to use images to create hyperlinks, also to pdf files, and some of them worked and others didn't. They were just dead. I tried several times but to no avail.
Does anybody have any suggestions? Also, when installing a hyperlink, and choosing the related file, is there anyway to edit the file's actual pathway? The dialog box just allows me to choose files, which it then loads automatically.

Thanks,

Rex

Thanks, but I don't think this helps. As I said, I'm uploading this to my Website on my domain, not a homepage or anything else on iDisk. So, I don't think this would apply, would it?

If it will, please elaborate. It's weird, some of my pdf's load very quickly, others seem to take forever; this is just when I'm online. If I just click on them locally, they load right away. And all the files are pdf's, all are in the same folder on my computer, and all have been added to iWeb in the same manner.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Your PDFs will download faster if you ZIP them before loading into iWeb.
You can also compress them using Preview.....
"Open Preview, in your Applications folder.
Choose File > Open, and select the PDF file to compress.
Choose File > Save, choose Reduce File Size from the Quartz Filter pop-up menu, and choose a name and location for the new PDF file."

The file reduction process in Preview does tend to screw up images.
Try creating a ZIP file from one of your PDFs, linking to it and uploading it to see how it works.
Are your PDFs huge files?
Here's an example of an image linking to a PDF...

You could try downloading one of them, highlight it, do a command I to compare the file size and download speed to one of yours.

Hi,

Well, then why don't we get right to figuring out what the reasons are.

-Can I assume we are talking about PDF documents created using a MAC?
-Being exported using either Pages or the Print dialog?
-Using what quality setting if in Pages?
-Compressing or not compressing using Quartz Filter in the Print Dialog?

-Exported files to be opened using which application, browser or program?

If you are making these decisions as necessary than the only other thing you could look at would be the content imported into the documents at time of creation. That is unless your documents have security issues that created problems for those using other platforms during the last year.

Working your way through the above checklist should help you answer your original question.
