Mac PDF's not compatible with Windows

Has anyone had a problem creating PDF files in OS 10.5.1 that can be read by others? Specifically I have created PDF's both by "printing" and by saving as PDF using Preview, and the files open fine on a Mac (using Preview at at least), but when I send these files to a Windows PC they cannot be opened by using either Acrobat Reader 8 or ABBY PDF Creator, both indicating that the files are corrupted. I am assuming at this point that this may have something to do with the fact that there is no version of Acrobat or Reader yet compatible with OS 10.5 . Can anyone confirm this? Thanks.

I use PDFs I've created on my macs (both have 10.5.1) on several windows XP machines at work. Apple's PDF solutions are different from Adobe, so the compatibility does not have to do with the availability of Adobe software. Still, one option would be to get "Adobe PDF" installed as a printer (not sure where it comes from -- maybe Reader, or with the CS3 suite) and then use that to print to PDF instead of using Apple's system technology. Still, it should be concerning that the system's PDFs are not being created properly. Do the PDFs open properly on other Macs? Have you tried multiple PCs?

Usually, the only thing that could cause any problem would be if you used unusual fonts. Even then, they would just get a warning.

Can you confirm that _no one_ using Windows can open your file? Are you sure this isn't a problem with e-mail clients on the receivers' side? That is much more likely to be the problem. Make sure you turn on the "Send Windows compatible attachments" option when you send e-mails.

Another option might be to compress your PDF files with zip before sending. They will be smaller to send and may be easier to receive.
