Anti Virus for Leopard.

Hi I'm looking for some advice with regard to Anti Virus Software on my new iMac. I'm not adverse to paying but if I can get a free ware AV program that would be great. ive here mentioned AGV and Avria, the former seems to be Windows only and the latter only has a freeware (Home) version on Windows. The mac version is 60 days, then you pay... Also are all these and other AV programs all ok on Leopard?

Many Thanks
Harry

Virus free doesn't mean there aren't any worms, trojan horses, bots, malware or vulnerabilities in 3rd party plug-ins and media plays or content.

Use your router and common sense still applies. Clicking on a link in an email - I wish companies would stop asking customers to click on links to opt out or check on order status.

Ads still show up, pop up, even though they aren't really ads at all, but malware and attempts to gain access or identity theft.

The trouble is, ClamXav doesn't spot infections in Office files, and can only delete a file rather than repair it, and the few companies claiming to have products don't have much practical experience or R&D, even as malware and bots have grown and will only get worse.

I don't feel any safer on Mac than on Vista.

I'm another Mac newbie and am confused about internet security. My machine is equipped with both Safari and Firefox browsers. Is one more secure or better than the other? What's the difference between the two?

A prior discussion mentioned the need for added Anti Virus Software. Of the several mentioned, which is the most accurate and problem free for Leopard?

I had no idea I'd need more anti virus; I had the impression that the Mac OS had somehow eliminated the possibilities for viruses. Does this mean that I'm back to slow PC mode -with a paralyzed computer while the Anti Virus completes its scan every time I fire up?

Thanks,

Does anyone have an idea about a possible virus on my iMac (OS X). Suddenly I keep losing my internet connection through airport. I though perhaps it was the Airport, but I have "plugged in" to the router and I am still getting kicked off periodically, even though all of the other Windows computers in the house remain up and running with no issues. Any ideas or suggestions, could this be a virus issue and how can I check?

Never shutting your Mac down properly (i.e. letting it sleep is NOT shutting it down) will effect your performance more unless you open up a program directly effected by a virus (macros are infamous for clogging up the various Mac MS Office versions).

There are a few holes known to Firefox, partially because it is one of the most prevalent browsers out there and there are many accessories for it. Safari has fewer security warnings, though there are a few websites (a few very major ones at that) that are optimized for it and will not display properly; if you like Safari, use it primarily and keep another browser (like Firefox) on for situations when you come to a site that won't load correctly in Safari. I should note that I am still on 10.4.11 and use Firefox as it has more features I personally use/like, in addition to regularly running Virex 7.2 with weekly-updated definitions. I do wish AVG would come to Mac though.

Overall, you don't want to be unprotected just because OS X is only indirectly affected by viruses, nor do you want to be a digital Typhoid Mary and spread infections to other OSes through laziness or complete self-centeredness- and it's not just Windows users which are effected.
