i see that it is much easier to work with by the product overview, i see they have an option of updating from previous expresses to logic 8 express and i'd rather pay 100$ than 200$.
im wondering what are the steps in this update process? like what is required?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.1.x)

I believe you can upgrade all the way back to logic 5 big box. If you have 5 or 6 you will need to have your original usb dongle handy. If you have 7 already installed on your machine it seems to read the serial number without further action from you when you go to install. That's what it did with mine anyway. Just order the upgrade version from Apple. One more thing, if you've created projects in 7 you need to drag the .iso file onto the Express 8 icon on the dock to open it in 8. If you just click on it it will open in 7. Afterwards will appear in 8 in your recently opened files list.
