Unable to click links in Safari?

Hello!
I am having a bit of a pickle with my ipod touch.
I am not able to click on links or fields in safari.
For example, when I access facebook.com, it recognizes it as an itouch/iphone, however i am unable to tap on the email field and enter any information.
Links in webpages also do not work. I zoom in to the link and press-and-release or press-and-hold and it does not recognize the links.
Websites tried: Google, livejournal, facebook, mezzoblue.com. all have the same problem.
I read the user manual and it says "tap on the link."
I'm assuming it's a user problem, so... what am i missing? 😀
