"Sync in Progress"................................!

Since last connecting my Touch (having included a few photos requiring to be uploaded) the Touch continually displays 'Sync in Progress' until I manually cancel it. iTues diplays 'Syncing iPod' but does not indicate what it is syncing - no photos and sync just keeps going on and on and on.... any suggestions?

I have a similar problem. My two boys received Touch's at Christmas. They sync fine, unless I try to sync the calendar, then both go into the "Sync in Progress..." for the calendar until I manually cancel it. Both devices do it. I can sync music, video, bookmarks, contacts without any problems.

Running iTunes 7.4.2, Touch is 1.1.2. I also have an iPhone that I have used since September with no sync problems (iPhone version 1.0.2).

I just encountered this problem for the first time with my Touch.

While the 'Sync in progress' was displayed, I clicked Info and unchecked Sync Address Book Contacts. (I wasn't syncing Calendar events.)

I clicked Apply. Then the message changed to 'Backing up...' and then it synced.
I then re-checked Sync Address Book Contacts, and it seems to be working fine now.

I started having the same problem today as well. I believe it only seems to happen if you have allowed iTunes to send diagnostic info about the iTouch to Apple. I managed to resolve the problem by doing the following:

1. Right-click on your iPod in the source list in iTunes
2. Select 'Reset Warnings'
3. Quit iTunes and unplug iPod
4. Plug iPod back in and re-open iTunes
5. You should get a dialogue box asking whether you want to send info about the iTouch to Apple
6. Check 'Don't ask me again' and click on 'Do not send'. iTouch should sync as normal

Hope this helps

Worked like a charm stdaveu. Makes sense, I set that setting so long ago I forgot. That's bad PR for apple with all the ipod sales to have the collection server(s) either crash or be flooded. People may be returning product based on this issue.

Something similar happened with one of the Podcasting catchers (can't remember it's name) prior to iTunes adding Podcasts. Their server went down and it hung on program launch.

I almost rebuilt my Mac from scratch last night, as I did the upgrade to leopard over top and thought "time to pay the piper"

Someone buy stdaveu a cookie!!!

Same problem here. I have to force quit my iTunes in order to get out of it. I found when that happens the best thing to do is this:

As soon as it says Sync in Progress... hit the "x" next to it
Eject the iPod Touch from the side bar menu in iTunes
Unplug the iPod
Plug the iPod back in

Its a lot of work to do in order to sync it, I know...but its a way to get around it until there is a fix. Just make sure you hit the "x" as soon as it comes up, otherwise iTunes will freeze and hitting it won't do anything.

On a side note, I've been a user of apple for quite a while now with not only the iPods, but also with their computers, wireless routers, mouses, etc. It seems like ever since they put out the iPhone, their quality has been going down. Anybody else agree with me? There are a lot of problems now with their products that before, they used to brag, weren't there.
