I did not get an iPod Setup Assistant when I started

So ummmm thats not normal is it? I have an Ipod Shuffle if that makes any difference

I had this same problem.

No programs started or came up on the laptop where I plugged it however I was able to see it via the folder and file lists in XP explorer as another drive called ipod.

After struggling around I downloaded itunes to the computer from Apple and finally it found it and I gave it a name and now I am trying to work out lists and sort orders here.

Anyway, I would say you maybe need to get the itunes program down from Apple. Its free.
