4:3 DVD is stretching to 16:9

So I made a DVD with iDVD '08 at the 4:3 aspect ratio. When I play it on a computer, it plays correctly as 4:3, but when I play it on any of the DVD players in my house that are connected to widescreen TVs, the image is stretched. I've read the manuals for both TVs and DVD players and tried to change everything to play a 4:3 DVD as a 4:3 aspect ratio with no success. Is there possibly something I missed in iDVD when I was making it?

If it plays correct using apple's DVD player then there may be a setting to address on either the TV or the DVD Player. Let me know if this helps at all:

Thanks for the help, enough thinking led us to realize that apparently you can't play 4:3 using component cables. When we hooked the DVD player up to the TV using s-video, it played perfectly.
