Calendar events not saving

This took me a while to figure out what was happening, but calendar events don't save unless you hit the done button before hitting the home button. I have lost countless calandar events that I though were saved because I hit the home button before the done button. I would think that hitting the home button should save the current event, but even if that isn't the case, pressing a button called SAVE should save the event. For example, I tap calendar and then the plus for a new event. I then tap the title and put in the information and hit SAVE. I then set the other settings, or even put in a note. After putting in the note, I hit SAVE again. I then hit the home button and the event which I thought was saved twice already isn't. Is this the desired behavior? I can't imagine other people haven't done this same thing.
