New 10.4 install - 'smtp-amavis connection refused' error

Hi all -

New 10.4 installation, fully updated. Everything else is working fine at the moment, but outgoing mail is not working - the only thing showing up in my SMTP log is the following error, once per minute:

postfix/qmgr[339]: warning: connect to transport smtp-amavis: Connection refused

postconf -n shows content_filter at 127.0.0.1:10024

I thought it might be a firewall issue, but the error repeats with the firewall entirely disabled... Similarly, the error continues whether I have Spam/Virus/Both scanning enabled in the Filters tab or not.

any help much appreciated!

I have not an answer but a fix that worked for me (the one time i needed it)

I went to Server Admin, turned off Virus Checking, stopped the mail server, restarted it. Made sure that all my mail delivered, then stopped the mail server again, enabled Virus Checking and stared the Mail Server again. Then AMAVIS did start on 10024 and mail was delivered from that point forward.

When I noticed this happening no one got mail for almost 2 days and I pulled out all sorts of hair figuring that one out (including a reboot which was not necessary)

Just to clarify, I had no outward symptom that anything was wrong. Everything was saying it was fine (mail server check said it was running etc) but I suddenly noticed that I did not receive my midnight security checks via email and that led me to see 100+ emails piled up waiting for the AMAVIS to accept them. the error I saw was: "Oct 10 14:01:02 [server name] postfix/qmgr[28984]: E9681BC40A1: to=<some@mailsystem.com>, relay=none, delay=25636, status=deferred (delivery temporarily suspended: connect to 127.0.0.1[127.0.0.1]: Connection refused)" and like the above amavis @ 10024 was not running.
