ipod classic and tv show episode ordering

this isn't so much of a problem as it is an annoying bump in the road. i recieved a 160 gig classic for christmas and used to have the 30 gig video ipod. on the old one, the tv shows when synced to the ipod would appear in the menu ordered according to the number of the episode in its season. the new one however has orders parts of the seasons according to the ep number, but sporadically throws random episodes out of place, making it difficult to know the chronological airing of a show. i have tv shows i've purchased and others i've recorded myself and converted, and neither are consistent like they were in the 30 gig. anyone have any thoughts on the matter?

Latest revision of the firmare appears to have set TV episode order (and podcasts) to reverse chronological order, i.e. latest comes first.

that's what i thought at first when i was scrolling through the list. unfortunately even when listed that way, it's out of order 😟

makes no sense to not have the option to change list view.

I've found out some more since my last post in this thread...

As of firmware 1.0.3 it appears that TV shows are ordered by release date. Sadly the iTunes interface does not provide a way to update these values but there are 3rd party tools that can help. Lostify apparently does the trick for Mac users, though I've no practical experience being stuck in the PC universe. PC users might like to try Tagger....

Tagger needs a bit of effort to get working so for PC users I'll share my experience. The download is RAR compressed so first you need an unpacker for that - I plumped for 7-Zip. Tagger relies on a working Java RunTime Envionment, not just the browser plug-ins so I headed off to java.sun.com for the *JDK 6 Update 3*. Once Tagger is up & running it's still not clear exactly how you are supposed to enter the date but further seaching revealed that it should be in the format YYYY-MM-DD. The good news is, it works! I've only done one of my series so far but the episodes are now in the correct order. Tagger also includes options to change all sorts of other hidden attributes which aren't exposed in the iTunes interface, e.g. Podcast details, ratings etc.

So, three days ago I went onto the apple idea's or feedback or whatever it is section of the apple site and wrote my two cents on the issue. Today i saw there was an ipod update. guess what's fixed?!!???!!!

i'm stoked on this. thanks apple!
