long time to sync ipod

Hi,

tearing my hair out with this ipod touch.

just tonight whenever I connect my ipod to my pc running XP it starts to synchronise and takes about 3-4 mins. eventually it completes the sync but theres no way it should be taking that long, worked fine only a couple of hours ago.
tried my USB slots on the front and on the back and its the same with all of them.
after the initial sync waiting time, if I still have the ipod connected and click on the 'sync' button on itunes it does it at the normal time.

all this is before I get the error messages saying that the 'device is not connected' but first things first.

driving me mad.

anyone else having similar problems?

I am having a similar problem except on my Mac. My touch was working fine last night and today it takes a very long time to sync. I checked the Console and the following was being posted there over the course of the sync:

I know MDCrashReportTool is used by Apple to submit crash details for mobile apps, so I am wondering if this is on their end. My internet connection works, and I have restarted iTunes, my Mac and the touch. Nothing has changed since yesterday, so I do not believe the problem is with me. Can anyone give me a clue if I'm headed in the right direction or provide a fix?

I'm getting the exact same problem with my iPhone. Synced fine a couple of days ago, but when I plugged it in last night and again this morning, syncing never stops (iTunes crashes if I try to manual stop it) and my console has the same error messages. Internet connection is fine, and have rebooted both my Mac and the iPhone.

Anyone know what's causing this is - is it Apple's end?

Update:

Having just posted this, the iPhone finished syncing (after about 15 minutes) - no idea as to why it suddenly finished. Sync again and it took only a few seconds (which is normal.)

Perhaps there was a large backlog of Safari crashlogs (has been a bit crash happy the last few days) and iTunes kept submitting and failing, hence delaying the sync?

thanks for the replies guys.

checking it again this morning and the situation here is still the same.

I have noticed now that if I add a song to the ipod it syncs very quickly as normal but if I remove a track and sync the ipod it takes a long time.

I do hope it is a problem at apples end because I have absolutely no idea what to do at the moment.

These threads mention the exact same problem:

http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6206904&#6206904

Looks like a solution that works in both of them is to go to the folder:

~/Libary/Logs/CrashReporter/MobileDevice/"your name" iphone/ (or your case iPod touch)

Then delete the files that the console is reporting errors with... Hope that helps!

I have found a solution in the thread titled *'sync in progress'*

when the ipod is connected and itunes is running the ipod should show up on the left hand side under 'devices', right click on the ipod and then select 'reset warnings' and then disconnect the ipod and close down itunes.
reconnect the ipod and itunes will then start up, a box will appear to which you click on 'dont send' and all should work normally again.

tried it and it did work ok, whether this is a long term solution is another question entirely but so far so good 🙂

Deleting those files took care of the problem for me.

It seems that when you agree to help Apple figure out what sites cause Mobile Safari to crash, you were also agreeing that the crash reporter should be able to try for tens of minutes to send reports, even when they fail, before doing ANY of your important synchronization.

Apple, it would be nice if the crash reporter waited until AFTER our data was synced, then gave up after a few reasonable attempts, rather than making it impossible to sync our iPhones.

So has anyone found a real solution for a Windows computer? The "reset warning" thing did nothing, as no box popped up when I connected my iPod again and the log deletion trick seems to only apply to Macs.

My iPod Touch used to to sync quickly and eventually it took several minutes (already abnormally long), but now it simply won't sync at all. It says "syncing," but always stays with the "preparation" bar (with all the lines) and won't make progress. And I'm not adding any tracks, just simply updating playcounts, etc.
