does anyone know how to modify drivers? many pc users have been able to do it, but i don't know anything about code so please help me

I love my powerbook and don't want to replace it, but this new display may make me do that, i need the 22"'s for designing work and don't want to go back to my 17" display.

Welcome to the Apple discussions.

Are you using the mini-DVI to DVI adapter to communicate with the Samsung screen? You shouldn't need a driver for it. How are you connecting the screen to your Powerbook and what are you seeing or not on the display?

After you connect it, can you go into system preferences (click on the light switch with the apple), and click on displays to see the resolutions available to you?

I'm having the same exact problem, only I've got the Samsung 225BW. I've spent all day on the phone with Samsung tech support to no avail, and could not reach anyone at Nvidia. Tried all the usual steps to adjust the resolution, but it will NOT reset, neither manually nor automatically, to the "optimum mode" of 1680x1050.

Have you had any luck yet? I've only had my display for a few days, and it will work on 1600x1024 and below, nothing higher.

There is no option in the menu for the 1680x1050! Making me crazy, because somehow it auto-set to the 1680x1050 when I first plugged it into my Powerbook G4, but now will not revert back to that.

Also, I searched for the driver downloads, and the only ones I found were for Windows.

Problem solved! Spent 2 1/2 hours on the phone with Apple care today, and went through all types of resets and settings... nothing worked. Finally came around to the cords, I was using the VGA adapter, not the DVI, so my Samsung was working in Analog mode. Simply switched cords to the DVI-to-DVI (which automatically puts it in digital mode), and turned the Samsung back on, 100% beautiful. full resolution, full screen and no stretching!

The tip about using the DVI-DVI connector worked for me -- full screen from the PB with max resolution (set via the control panel). Only problem now is that the font is not as smooth and crisp as on my 20" Apple Cinema display. They seem to have a halo around them or as if they are not anti-aliased. Anyone else seeing this? Anything I can do to make the font crisper?

Yep, got 2 of the Samsung 226BWs hooked up to a MacPro quad, and the fonts are fuzzy/jagged etc. Readable sure but nothing like my G5 iMac. I haven't checked what sort of panel it is, apparently there are good, ok and not-so-good versions of this screen (see http://www.atomicmpc.com.au/forums.asp?s=2&c=26&t=131&p=40) this could be our problem but it think it's mainly a colour balance issue with those screens.
I'm also looking to make my Samsungs as crisp as a Mac screen, maybe I should have paid twice the price for a smaller screen. Would also like to increase the refresh rate, looking for help too.
