I just tried to sync my 60gb Ipod photo to my computer and itunes says that I only have 16 gb of space available with 21 gb being used in "other". The problem is that there is nothing on the ipod, so where is the memory being used up? I've tried to restore three times, but nothing changes. Any suggestions.

I have the exact same problem. When looking at the "about this ipod" screen, it actually says that it has a 16 Gig hard drive even though it is really the 60 gig model. Must be an issue with a recent software update but I can't install an older system into the ipod.
Although I am sorry this has happened to you, I'm glad it has come up again.
There are several older threads that discussed this problem, and no one has been able to resolve it yet. All have the exact same "16GB" symptom.
This seemed to happen about the time of an iTunes/iPhone update, so I think it is a firmware software problem caused by Apple.
I keep hoping for a fix from them, but not a word of acknowledgment of this being a problem as yet.
Talked to a Genius at the Apple Store, and he had never heard of this before, and was basically unwilling to help. Said it was about time for a new iPod anyway.
Wouldn't have minded so much, but I was a month out of AppleCare, and this was a brand new unit from Apple (my old one had a hard drive go bad), and was only used twice.
C'mon Apple, what's the deal? Please fix this problem. this is not instilling a lot of confidence in hard drive based iPods, at least for me.

Same thing just happened to me. It also lost my 15,000 songs and now shows zero songs. Tried several times to restore the iPod but nothing helps. Now what?
I just updated to iTunes 7.6 (29) in the hopes that there was a fix for this problem in this update.
Still no progress.
Did four restores in iTunes, with no improvement.
