You can use your iphone in Mexico but its going to cost a ton of money per minute.

I can just tell you this. We were in Cancoon Mexico with my Cingular Phone last year. I left it off the first few days but one morning I turned it on and it rang almost immediately with a call from the states. Thinking it might be an emergency, we took the call and were never charged for the call. Also, we were in Victoria Canada for a few days. I used the phone there freely with no extra charge. Don,t know for sure but maybe we were lucky.

You must first call AT&T and have your account authorized for international roaming. They can also tell you about discount roaming packages for voice in Mexico. SMS is expensive; I think it's $0.50/message, but you should check on the AT&T site www.wireless.att.com/international. Be sure that Data Roaming is off, because the phone will otherwise use data on its own without a specific action on your part. Or, if you want data, you can get data roaming packages specifically for the iPhone. See the same link as above and look for iPhone data roaming.
