1. Go to settings, safari and clear history and cookies.
2. Next do a software reboot. Hold down the power button and home key at the same time for about 15 seconds or until you see the apple icon.
My iPhone's browser closes about 10 times a day while viewing, among other sites, engadget. I see the suggestion to clear cookeies, etc. but I really don't see why this should be a "problem." Meaning I don't see why cookies and cache should make the iPhone's safari close unexpectedly and without me doing anything to close the browser.
I just want it to work. If the cache and cookies need to be cleared, Apple should, in my opinion, make a way for it to clear automatically after xx days (or some user-alterable setting).
Phew! I'm glad to hear others are having this problem. I agree that it shouldn't be just the cache or cookie folder. I have reset my iphone previously, and it still happens. And the rate that it happens seems to indicate a bug in the last update and I'm sure Apple is aware of it. Or at least I hope they are.
I have found that since update 1.1.4 safari on my iPhone crashes and force quits very often. I have tried rebooting my phone and this does not improve things. Safari is more prone to crashing if I try to zoom in whilst the page is still loading. The problem with 1.1.4 does not stop at safari, the iPhone seems to be slower to use. For example, there is more of a delay when opening text messages or the calendar and I am now able to type faster than my iPhone can display the text. I have even had the phone application crash with the screen ceasing to function requiring me to hold down the home button to force quit the application. I really hope these issues are sorted out in an update when the SDK is released as my iPhone is no longer a joy to use.
OK i have had the same problem. . . this is what i figured. . . i never have to clear the cache or cookies or anything like ever, but it depends on the page u r trying to load, if its a large page or u have other pages open at the same time, it seems to have a set limit to what the browser can open, like on my myspace there was a long conituned message and i couldnt reply to it, each time i tryed replying to it, it would close. but i havent had this problem very much like it happens very rarely, i think it just has to do with the page ur trying to load. so if it a large page it probably wont work and if it has flash stuff then it will most likely close quickly on u. . . thats just what i noticed
I've had my iphone for about 2 months now. I've noticed the same thing. As much as this is a pain in the butt, I'll gladly put up with it because if you simply REBOOT the iphone, it will fix it for awhile. Depending on how much you use it. I have to reboot my iphone about once a week to keep it form crashing my apps.
Examples of apps that have crashed (I.E. Close and go to HomePage) are IPod part, web based apps, and Email Client.
