i also have the problem with my Macbook Pro (bought in january) that i dont have a picture when playing DVDs, i only see the menu markers on a black screen and hear the sound. But this is not always the case. It may be that one day a DVD plays fine, and the next day it is not working, or the other way around. I have also been updating the system with the "software update" function, but the this didnt help. I use leopard in version 10.5.1.
Can someone help, please?

Currently Being ModeratedFeb 4, 2008 8:55 AM (in response to daniel_de99)do you have macports or fink installed?
i had the same problem, but after deleting some files in /sw/... with filename like dvdaccess or similar (cant remember exactly) in the fink case, or in /opt/... for the macport case, the black screen in dvd player was gone.MBP 2,2, Mac OS X (10.5.1)
Same problem... I put in a DVD and there is no picture (the menu items will highlight, and the audio plays, but you can't see anything...) I tried two different DVD's to no avail - same problem both times. Any ideas what the problem is? This is my first mac and is only one month old, but can't say I'm overly impressed yet...macbook pro 15", Mac OS X (10.5)
A few days ago i contacted the customer service and the guy on the phone had no idea but he told me to reset the smc chip (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303319-en). I will not do that, because i dont think that this would solve the problem, since the smc just deals with power management...Macbook Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.1)
I have the exact same issue here. It seems to be completely random when the video would cease to function. Even viewing some TV Episode DVDs, a few episodes may work, but others do not on the same DVD. The only remedy is a reboot. It can get quite annoying.Macbook Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.1)
