Archive Utility Freezes

I was unzipping a normal (not password protected) Windows .zip file and the Archive Utility completed 99% and then froze. Cancel is not an option, and it is not on the Force Quit menu, so I had to restart to get rid of it hovering on top of all my other windows. I could unzip other files while this one was sitting there, but I was not able to delete the file being unzipped nor could I close the utility. I just don't want this happening again, so any ideas?

I have had this same problem for three days now. Restarting has not fixed the problem, and the Archive Utility doesn't show up in the force-quit window or in the Utilities Activity Monitor. How do I kill it, at least? It has gotten to the point that even zips that are not sound files refuse to open (read: school projects), and restarting over and over is a pain.

Same thing just happened to me. Is there any way to dismiss the stuck window without restarting?

I was attempting to move a group of zip files from one folder to another, but my hand slipped & apparently created a double click, and the batch started to open into pdf files. Apparently the last file got stuck in process.

There should be a Preference to enable a confirmation before the task begins.

& how come Apple key-period no longer stops tasks in progress?
