itunes not updating nike+ website

I've recently started using my new nike+ipod. I created an account on nikeplus.com, and when I sync, itunes says that it is sending my data to nikeplus, but nikeplus is still showing 0 runs. I have 3 or 4 runs on the ipod. I'm using WinXP iTunes 7.5 with a 3G nano 8GB. the Nike+ipod tab on itunes has the "automatically send workout data to nikeplus.com" check box checked.

Originally I also had a "visit nikeplus" button, but following the advice I'd read in a different forum (which I can't locate now), I unchecked the box, restarted itunes, lost the button, re-checked the checkbox, but the button didn't return.

From itunes I've never been asked any login data for nikeplus.com

I'm getting very frustrated b/c i'm afraid that i'll lose some of my workout data.

Does anybody have any suggestions??

thanks!

I'm having the exact same trouble as well, only I'm on a Mac with the latest iTunes (version 7.5). I find it odd that it does not show your Nike Account user ID on the Nike+ tab in iTunes as it shows in the video tutorial for syncing your run data.

I will keep searching for a resolution myself and keep you posted if I find something that works.

Nightmare same problem - had button to visit site 5 mins ago

then itunes said it was syncing with nikeplus, came up with error (-23) and now the button to visit has disappeared

tried rebooting, updating all software on ipod and itunes and visited nikeplus in separate window after itunes says it is syncing but still no joy

the only consolation is that the runs are still showing on my ipod and itunes - just not on my nikeplus page and therefore not on my blog which has a feed from nikeplus

very frustrating - does apply read this to help resolve or do we contact them separately ?

hmm, frustrated

Just recieved a shiny new nano 3g from santa for xmas which replace my battered old nano (which worked perfectly with nike+)

Having more or less the same problem as the others, i can see the work out on my iplop + itunes.

Doesn't give me the option to auto send the data when i connect said iplop.

When i click the box to send data automatically it syncs (seems to take forever)
even some times says recieving account information from nike.com.

But that seems to fail and then the data disappears from itunes (still on iplop though)

Have the latest software for both ipod and itunes.

any help greatly received

thanks

I also have serious troubles with my nike+ kit. I cannot sync any runs to my Nike+ account on the Nike+ website. I do see my runs in Itunes. I first tried to use Itunes 7.5, but I couldn't specify my login credentials anywhere in Itunes. So I tried Itunes 7.4 (on another computer) and was able to specify my Nike+ login. Although I could do this, I did NOT see any runs on the nike+ website !

I also got the famous "error (-23)" in Itunes when I try to sync Nike+ data, I wonder what it means?!?
I'm pretty disappointed because a lot of people actually suffer with this problem, but there seems to be no solution....

Any help please ?!? (getting pretty desperate :s)
Thanks in advance

This is now also happening on 2nd gen ipods. I have changed the sensor to an existing receiver and can't change the login ID so my data goes to my nike account. The visit site is not there anymore it pretends to get account info from nike and pretends to send data but the data goes to nike on a demo site or something as not logged in. I can't find the data on my nike account or the other nike account this sensor had previously sent to. Perhaps it's a nike problem with the webpages. This started happening to me after I upgraded to 10.4.11 so maybe it's to do with that. Today I bought a new nike kit very reduced and thought I will relink it all and see how it goes. Is there anyone from nike around that can answer our calls. I am losing 20kms if I plug in the new receiver or does the receiver retain the info?

Well, I found my solution finally, but first, I must provide a bit more background of what I had going on when I attempted to log my first run on Nike+ to my nikeplus.com account when it failed to update and display on nikeplus.com. My apologies ahead of time for providing so much info here, but hopefully my specific details will be of benefit for all of you who are still struggling with getting nikeplus.com to record your run data. So, here it goes...

After running my first run with my new Nike+ kit, I already had iTunes open, was currently logged into my iTunes store account with my apple ID, and had also opened my browser (Firefox) and logged into my nikeplus.com account directly, all before connecting my iPod with it's newly recorded data of my first run.

I can't remember if I then clicked on the Nike+ tab myself or if it just displayed that section automatically, but there was a button to visit the nikeplus.com site, the option to "Automatically send workout data to nikeplus.com" was apparently turned on by default, and simultaneous to that section displaying, I received a dialogue box over that section asking my if I wanted iTunes to then send my data to nikeplus.com.

Of course I clicked yes, and after a few seconds of the status at the top of the iTunes window saying that it was sending the data, it gave me a dialogue box asking me if I wanted to then visit nikeplus.com I was surprised to not be faced with a box for me to actually login and specify the nike account I wanted the data to go to, but since I was already logged into my nikeplus.com account in my browser window, I assumed it had already made a connection through the open account in the browser and continued on. Assuming I would just always be logged into my nikeplus.com account in my browser (I have my nikeplus.com profile set to "Remember me", I clicked on the option it gave me to not display the message again and declined the invite from iTunes to visit nikeplus.com thinking it would just be redundant for it to load nikeplus.com in another tab in Firefox, next to the tab that already had my account displayed. Interestingly, the button iTunes had to visit nikeplus.com right under the Nike+ tab also disappeared from the tab.

I went back to nikeplus.com in my browser, and clicked refresh to see if it then updated and displayed the results of my first run, but to my horror, it had failed and my account still showed 0 runs, and 0s for all the stats. I pulled back up my iTunes window and disabled the option to "automatically send workout data..." and hit the "Apply" button in the lower right corner of the iTunes window. I then hit "Sync" to see if it would successfully sync my data with nikeplus.com doing it the manual way. I pulled back up Firefox, and hit refresh again, and still, no stats for anything was shown in my nike account.

After visiting several threads of others with the same concern in the forums directly on the Nike+ site under their support section, I found someone who said all they did to get their's to work was to log out of nikeplus.com and then shut down their browser. They then disconnected their ipod, closed iTunes, and then reconnected their ipod and was able to get the data uploaded.

Here were my results with this process with some additional steps I ended up taking:

1. In between closing iTunes and reconnecting my iPod, I decided to go for a 2nd run with the nike+ kit attached, yesterday, to make sure I had some new run data on the iPod.

2. When I came back, I ensured that I was still not logged into nikeplus.com and then closed my browser (Firefox). I also ensured that iTunes was still not running. I then connected my iPod, and iTunes came right up as it is supposed to, with my iPod and all of the tabs for it. I right clicked on my iPod tab in the source pane and in the menu that came up, clicked "Reset warning messages".

3. I then clicked over to the Nike+ tab and still nothing new. At this time, I still had the option to "Automatically send workout data to nikeplus.com" disabled (I had turned it off to try and sync manually after my first failed attempts). I clicked on the check box to enable that option again and clicked on the "apply" button in the lower right corner of the iTunes window.

4. Still seeing no positive action taking place, I then clicked on the "Sync" button on the lower right hand corner of the window....and to my joy, the status area at the top of the iTunes window actually spent a few seconds telling me it was sending my data to nikeplus.com (as opposed to the quick half second it would take when I tried syncing it on manually on the previous attempts).

5. After the data was done being sent, I finally received the same dialogue box that asked me if I wanted to visit nikeplus.com that I had gotten during my first attempt to sync run data to my nike account. This time I did accept the invite in which Firefox was activated and loaded nikeplus.com with newest run data displaying. I then clicked on a link it had to save the data, to which nikeplus.com then popped up it's login window and I was able to enter my login info and upon logging in, my new run data had been saved and my stats were being displayed.

6. For further testing, I went out for my 3rd run with my nike+ kit today. After finishing that run, I came back, this time had firefox open again with my nikeplus.com account already logged in before connecting my ipod. I connected my ipod, and again was given the dialogue to send my data to nikeplus.com. I then said it was sending it and again gave me the prompt to visit nikeplus.com. I declined the prompt again, but this time, did not click the option to never show it again. I pulled up Firefox again, and clicked refresh, and to my amazement, it had been updated with my latest run from today.

I clicked back over to iTunes and the gray button to "visit nikeplus.com" had returned to the nike+ tab for my ipod, and this time it was also displaying my nikeplus.com Login ID right between that "visit nikeplus.com" button and the option to "automatically send workout data..." which was still checked.

iTunes still shows that I've ran a total of 3 runs now, and displays a summary of all 3 runs, but I've not yet been able to update my nike account with my first actual run (it now only has data from my last two runs recorded), and don't think I ever will, but at least it now seems to be working and updating as I had hoped.

I know this was a long post, but again, I hope it was very informative and serves at least some of you, if not all of you well in overcoming your challenges with updating your nike accounts.

Happy Running!

Thanks a heap. It worked. I have seen my data sent to nike before but when it said to join I thought I am already joined and didn't hit the join button but went back to iTunes as i was trying to change the account details in iTunes.

It seems to be that now you change the details in the nike site when your data is showing and you are asked if you want to save the data.

Also the window with -your data has been successfully sent to nike would you like to visit doesn't come up but I decided to click on the visit site button that was now available and then the nike site with my graph and do you want to save it came up.

So basically they must have changed the way it works. I think I have lost about 20km but at least I can add more data to my graphs with my new sensor.

Many thanks and cheers from JennyA

I've also mostly got it working, myself. Unfortunately, it's been too cold here to run lately (for me, at least), so I don't have any new data to try out - but one thing that I noticed was that if you go into Windows Explorer (or the Mac equivalent, obviously), and then navigate to the ipod/pod control/trainer (I believe - I don't have itunes here at work to confirm), you'll see 2 subdirectories at the same level - "latest" and "synched". most likely you'll only have .xml files in synched, and possibly only 1 in "latest". each .xml file is the data from one run - so look at the dates and see if there are any in "synched" that you are missing from nikeplus.com. move the missing .xml files in synched can be moved back into latest. at this point i'd recommend ejecting and then re-connecting/synching the ipod (rather than JUST resynching). the missing runs should hopefully now be showing up on nikeplus.

I think that nikeplus.com was having a lot of problems over the holidays, as it is pretty much working for me now. I also think that perhaps the reason that you don't need to specify your login name in itunes is b/c the information is sent to nikeplus based on your ipod serial#. HOWEVER - this is pure speculation on my part, I've got nothing to back that up. heck, i'm still trying to figure out how to get nikeplus.com to "remember me" 🙂

I hope this helps!

Will, thanks for your detailed help. I followed the steps you set out several times but to no avail. On several occasions after syncing I saw the prompt asking me if I wanted to visit nikeplus.com, but when I got there I couldn't see my run information.

In a last ditch effort I decided to check my security settings and discovered that the firewall in Kaspersky Internet Security (v 7.0.0.125) was blocking iTunes from sending the run data so for people who are still having problems it may be worth checking here.

If you go to the banners section under the firewall tab you'll see an entry for a domain featuring the word 'Nike' (sorry I cleared the log before writing down the full details) If you right click and choose allow, then repeat the steps in Will's post everything should work fine.
