HOST, DIG, NSLOOKUP & ARD resolve dns, ping won't
I set up the DNS server on a Xserve G5 running Tiger 10.4.3 using server admin. I can resolve FQDN's to the proper host IP's using the HOST, DIG, & NSLOOKUP commands, but PING fails, returning 'Unknown host'. Apple remote desktop reports the proper host names for each IP address. Internet browsers (safari, firefox, & IE mac & win) cannot find internal http servers using the FQDN, but work fine with the IP.
This DNS server is only for the internal or local network domain and is set up as a "forward only" caching server. NAT is provided by another device (router). The caching works fine and shows the expected benefit for any machines talking to external (ISP) DNS.
Any ideas?
